MCMURRY NO MATCH FOR PIRATE WOMEN

The Southwestern University swim team was firing on all cylinders on Saturday as they took on in-state opponent, McMurry. The women emerged victorious, 85-74 while the men fell 97-68.

On the women's side, steady performances by the Pirates helped launch them to victory as they won five events and finished second in seven events. The difference maker to catapult the Pirates to victory was the 200 yard freestyle. Southwestern University captured first, second and third place in the event for a total of 14 points. Freshman Sarah Ayers placed first in a time of 2:03.79, sophomore Samantha Kessler took second with a time of 2:06.38 and sophomore Michelle Comerota came in third at 2:13.41.

The men's team started the meet off well by winning their first race of the day, the 1000 yard freestyle. Sophomore Taylor Steele took the event with a time of 10:49.82. The men won four events and finished in second in five events.

Southwestern University's next meet will be at the SCAC Championships on February 12-14th in Nashville, TN. The Pirates are poised to set new records as they continue to improve as the season progresses.
