Seagraves Accepts Athletic Director Position at Centenary
GEORGETOWN, Texas - Southwestern University Associate Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Ronda Seagraves was announced Friday as Centenary College’s new Director of Athletics and Wellness, the first female to serve in the position at the College. Centenary currently completed their second year as a provisional member of Division III and is on track to achieve active membership status by 2014-15.
Seagraves will guide the Ladies and Gents athletic programs into the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) from the American Southwest Conference (ASC), a move that was announced in September 2011.
"I am truly grateful to have had the chance to be a part of the Southwestern community for so many years,” states Seagraves. “I want to personally thank Dr. Glada Munt and President Schrum for the leadership, mentoring and friendship that they have provided. The confidence and skills I have acquired are due to the opportunities for growth and development under their tutelage. My colleagues in the department are the best, most cohesive group I have ever worked with in athletics.”
Seagraves has been a constant figure in Southwestern’s athletic department, serving for more than 20 years since joining the staff as the head women’s basketball coach and assistant professor in 1992. She is the current record holder in most conference victories in a single season with 12 in 1997-98 and guided the Pirates to their only SCAC Conference Championship and NCAA National Tournament appearance in the same season. Seagraves also led the golf teams from 1996-2000 and has been named SCAC Coach-of-the-Year three times, twice in golf and once in basketball.
Prior to Southwestern Seagraves spent stints at Allegheny College from 1986-1992, Kennesaw State University from 1984-1986 and Allegheny College from 1981-1984, serving in a wide variety of administrative and coaching roles at each institution. She is a 1981 graduate of Ohio State University where she was a four-year letterwinner on the women’s basketball team and earned an M.A. in Education from Allegheny College in 1989.
Centenary College, located in Shreveport, Louisiana, is a private, four-year arts and sciences college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1825, it is the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River. Seagraves will begin her tenure on July 30th.
“The environment of support and cooperation amongst the staff encourages the success of all. I leave knowing that I am a better person, a stronger administrator and prepared for my next challenge having been a member of the Pirate family. Thanks for the camaraderie, cheers, and arrghs!"
